Animal Health Jobs

Animal health is one of the prime industries in US and UK, with the industry offering many lucrative career options for those interested in veterinary sciences and related fields. But to begin with, you must have an active interest in the well being of animals. Animal health jobs are of many kinds, from part time to full time. Vets are needed in all kinds of institutions, from government organizations to pharmaceutical companies, from research organizations to private practices, among others. A veterinarian is a professional doctor with a certificate in veterinary medicine. However, to be a practitioner in this field, he or she must have completed his or her degree from a college. Veterinaries thus work in different fields and specialized areas, be it as a researcher or in terms of their own practice. The role of veterinarians is not only to examine animals, but also to make diagnosis, offer treatments, perform surgeries on animals and conduct specialized tests such as lab tests, radiography and ultrasound, among others.
Most of the veterinarians prefer to own and manage their own private practice, offering their services to either small companion animals or for large animal practices. Mixed animal practices are also common in many countries, which cater to both large and small animals. Some of the specialists are known to offer their services in local hospitals and multi-specialist services.

Some of the important areas of specialization in veterinary science are cardiology, neurology, dermatology, behavior, opthalmology, dentistry, oncology and internal medicine, among others. Most of the veterinarians are known to work in research and development organizations, the latter working in the development of health care products for animals. Still others find animal health jobs in the area of teaching and research, thus teaching in veterinary colleges.

Most of the veterinary colleges offer courses of different levels and with different specialization areas. Thus some of the common animal health jobs title would be Research Assistant, Resident in Small Animal Medicine, Phd Researcher, Technician, Lecturer or Senior Lecturer, Veterinary Nurses, Small Animal Internship and Senior Animal Technician, among others. Having one's own practice offers much flexibility to most veterinarians, in terms of working hours. Thus, it is very common for some of the vets to work in local hospitals for few hours of the week or teach students in a veterinary college. Pharmaceutical companies are also almost on the look out for clinical technicians, who have considerable experience in their chosen field.
