By dentistry, we mean the total treatment of teeth which includes "evaluation, diagnosis, prevention and treatment (such as no surgical, surgical or related procedures) of diseases, disorders and conditions of the oral cavity, maxillofacial area and the adjacent and associated structures and their impact on the human body". Doctors who specialize in the field of dental care are popularly known as dentists. Here we will be discussing about the various related topics of dentistry.

Dentists are trained professionals who offer you various treatments to keep your teeth healthy and strong. To become a dentist, one has to pass the courses of dentistry which includes general dentistry as well as speciality areas such as surgery, endodontics, orthodontics, etc. Apart from the general dentists, the specialist dentists can be divided into nine categories according to their works. The divisions of dentistry are as follows:

Dental public health (this division is about study of dental epidemiology and social health policies),
Endodontics (this division is about root canal therapy and study of diseases of the dental pulp),
Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology (this division is about study, diagnosis, and sometimes the treatment of oral and maxillofacial related diseases),

Oral and maxillofacial radiology (this division is about study and radiologic interpretation of oral and maxillofacial diseases),
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (this division is about extractions, facial surgery and implants),
Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics (this division is about straightening of teeth and modification of midface and mandibular growth),
Pediatric Dentistry (this division is about dentistry for children, formerly known as "pedodontics"),

Periodontics (this division is about treatment of the periodontium)
Prosthodontics (this division is about dentures, bridges and the restoration of implants.

Another division of dentistry that is getting immense importance in the recent years, especially in western countries is the cosmetic dentistry. Cosmetic dentists treat on fixing of smile along with veneers, tooth whitening and dental bonding.
