Emergency Service Agencies in the UK

Emergency service agencies in the UK mainly comprises of police department, medical and ambulance agencies and the fire agencies. Previously all the UK emergency agencies were introduced and funded locally, wherein every county and county borough had its own emergency services. During the latter part of 1947 all counties and county boroughs was required to launch their own ambulance service. The important ambulance agencies in the United Kingdom include British Red Cross and St John Ambulance. An increase in number of private health organizations has led to formation of many independent operators who mostly serve in airports, private hospitals and other places. There are a number of fire service organizations in the different counties and county boroughs of UK. The list of the major emergency service agencies in the UK includes Emergency Medical Service (EMS), Cookstown Fire Station, D B McLarnon Fire Protection Agency, National Gas Emergency Service and London Emergency Services Liaison Panel (LESLP) among others. The most common EMS type in the UK and other countries is the ambulance organization. The Emergency Medical Service offers out-of-hospital treatment to patients in urgent situations.

At present there are 52 police forces in the United Kingdom serving the all the major cities and counties.In London there are two police forces which include the Metropolitan Police and City of London Police offering emergency services and protection to the people pf London. The London Emergency Services Liaison Panel (LESLP) is one of the key emergency service agencies in the UK. This emergency agency constitutes representatives from the British Transport Police, Metropolitan Police Service, City of London Police, London Ambulance Service, London Fire Brigade, and the local authorities. The other secondary emergency service agencies in the United Kingdom include the Civil Defense, Home Office, Marine Services Agency, Her Majesty's Coastguard, Lifeboat Services as well as the Cave and Mountain Rescue Teams. Triple nine or 999 is the emergency services number in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
