Some of the top festivals in Asia are : Andong Mask Dance Festival:The biggest events at Hahoe is the Andong Mask Dance Festival,which is held on during the month of October. Budha's Birthday Celebrations in Hong Kong:The Lord Buddha's birthday falls in early May on the Chinese calendar, and since 1999 Hong Kong has celebrated it as a public holiday. The day is marked not only with the saying of prayers in Buddhist temples, but also by the ceremonial washing of Buddha statues.
The Chinese calendar is based on a combination of lunar and solar movements. The lunar cycle is about 29.5 days. Doll Festival:The "doll festival" is marked as a fun holiday is more commonly known as Girls Day and is celebrated every March 3rd. Girls throughout Japan display their doll collections for a few days to celebrate "Hina Matsuri." One legend says if a girl displays her dolls for more than three days she will marry later in life. Eisa Festival:Family and tradition are the keystones of Japanese culture. One of the most important parts of the tradition is Obon, which means Eisa is equally as important. The Eisa festival, held at the conclusion of Obon in late August, marks the end of summer and is one of the top festivals in Asia . It is a time of great celebration and the time to bid farewell to the spirits of ancestors who have come back to earth for Obon. Dragon Boat Races:Throughout the spring and early summer an annual tradition is carried out in many of the fishing ports around Okinawa. This colorful event is called the Haari or Dragon Boat Races. As with many of the traditional festivals, this one has it has beginnings in a centuries old legend. For several years now, Singapore , Jakarta in Indonesia), Bangkok in Thailand), Hong Kong in China, Seoul in South Korea and other cities of Asia have been holding festivals of French arts and culture, known as the French May Festival. Each year, from March to July, dozens of French artists working in all disciplines take part in these events organized by the cultural centres of the countries of South East Asia.
