Azerbaijan which is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Asia, attracts tourists from all over the globe. The country of Azerbaijan happens to be the most populous in the whole of the South Caucasus region that belongs to Eurasia. The country of Azerbaijan is a unitary and secular republic. The country happens to be one of the members for the foundation of GUAM as well as the founder of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. The country has also been an active member of the Commonwealth of Independent States since the month of September since the year 1993. Azerbaijan is also an existing member of the United Nations, Council of Europe, OSCE as well as the NATO Partnership for Peace (PfP) program.

The country is protected from the direct northerly cold waves by the Greater Caucasus. Plant diversity and lush forest vegetation can also be noticed in the Great Caucasus Northern-eastern slopes and the slopes of Talysh Mountain and Lesser Caucasus. There are about 400 species of endemic plants with seven species of reptiles and perches. The country of Azerbaijan is believed to have derived its name from Atropates who was a governor in the Atropatene period, and the meaning of Atropates "protected by fire" and this name is believed to have Old Persian roots. The inhabitants of the country are mainly Medes, Caucasians, Scythians, Armenians, Persians, Greeks, Khazars, Romans, Oghuz, Arabs, Seljuks, Russians and Mongols.
